I finished my graduate school research a few months ago and so I have officially graduated with my Masters of Science in Biomedical Visualization.
My research project was to create an interactive for children with spina bifida to learn about their birth defect. The interactive was composed of 5 chapters: Spina Bifida, Side Effects, Nutrition, Resources, and Glossary. Each chapter was set up so each piece of information had an accompanying illustration. At the end of three chapters there was a game to reinforce the information the patient learned within the chapter. The medical jargon that can be complicated and hard to pronounce was compiled in a glossary at the end of the interactive. Also, when the words came up in the chapters they were buttons that had sound clips associated so the patient would learn how pronounce the jargon.
Target Audience: 6 year olds and their parents/guardians
Content Expert: Dr. McLone from Children’s Memorial Hospital
Programs used: Adobe Flash, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Soundbooth
